Cartoonist Nathan Olsen Makes His Big Debut with Tiny Dracula #1

The Quirky New Series Sinks Its Teeth into Kickstarter January 27, 2025

Huntington Beach, CA – On Monday, January 27, 2025, cartoonist Nathan Olsen is launching a Kickstarter campaign for Tiny Dracula #1, the first issue of his exciting new comic book series. The campaign will run through February 26, 2025, with an exclusive early bird discount available to backers who pledge within the first 48 hours of launch.

Tiny Dracula #1 is a gothic melodrama that reimagines Bram Stoker’s classic novel with a playful twist: Dracula remains bat-sized even in human form. The story blends haunting settings and horror-inspired imagery with deadpan humor, soap opera-style cliffhangers, and romantic intrigue to create a unique and engaging reading experience.

Set in 1893 Whitby, England, the series follows 19-year-old Lucy Westenra, who has vowed to forgo marriage and family to pursue a career in medicine, defying the rigid expectations of late-Victorian society—and her mother’s relentless matchmaking efforts. Lucy’s carefully planned life is thrown into turmoil when she meets the mysterious and diminutive Count Dracula, sparking the beginnings of an unlikely romance between the two.

Tiny Dracula isn’t Olsen’s first foray into the macabre. “Back in 2009, I co-created a web comic series with my brother Robert that poked fun at classic horror tropes,” Olsen shared. “The comics were filled with zombies, ghosts, and all sorts of cryptids—even vampires. So I feel right at home with Tiny Dracula,” he laughed.

Nathan Olsen, best known for his web comic series Sundae Comics, has been creating and sharing comics online for over fifteen years. Now, with his first-ever Kickstarter campaign, Olsen is making his debut in print publishing and has taken every step to ensure a top-tier product. “Since this is my first Kickstarter, I’ve left nothing to chance,” Olsen explained. “Work on Tiny Dracula #1 was completed in October, giving me ample time to ensure the printed book is the best it can be. Just a few weeks ago, I received a proof copy of the comic, printed by Color Vision in Wisconsin, and I’m thrilled with the result—it’s absolutely stunning.”

The Kickstarter campaign for Tiny Dracula #1 aims to fund its production and printing, offering two editions for backers.

The 28-page standard edition is an oversized 7.75″ x 10.25″ comic—a throwback to “Golden Age” comic book proportions. Printed on premium heavyweight matte paper, the larger page size provides the perfect showcase for Olsen’s gorgeous ink line work. For collectors, the Kickstarter-exclusive deluxe edition includes a variant cover featuring Lucy Westenra and a bonus section of behind-the-scenes artwork from the comic’s creation.
